IOWA CITY, Iowa — Ability Tech, a company that invents adaptive technology for universal abilities, won first place and $10,000 at the University of Iowa’s Venture School Launch Day on June 9 at The Graduate Hotel.
A total of $29,500 in prize money was awarded to nine teams.
Second place ($7,500) went to Learning Couture, a web-based solution so educators can create student experiences that are personalized and competency-based. Silicone Studios, a company that creates reusable paint tray liners and lids, earned third place ($5,000). Two runner-up teams received $1,500 each: TerraForm Tillage, a company that provides sustainably focused technologies to farmers, and Maters of Comfort, a prototype for Advance Practice Nurses interested in going into private practice.
Four semifinalists received $1,000 each. They are Judy and Eileen, Symposia, WhiteSlip, and Mozbites.
Venture School is affiliated with the University of Iowa John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center. The statewide training program focuses on real-world experimentation, customer discovery, and Lean LaunchPad methodologies.
