University of Iowa student businesses Actively (Idea Stage) and PTXtension (Startup Growth Stage) won first-place awards and $1,000 each at the University of Iowa John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (Iowa JPEC) End-of-Semester Pitch Competition on Dec. 10 in Pomerantz Career Center.

A total of $4,500 was awarded to eight student businesses.

Actively, an app that creates a social media platform that allows players to find the perfect opponent for their favorite sports, is co-founded by Reed Adajar and Carson Lovig. PTXtension, an app aimed at improving patient accountability and boosting the success and cost effectiveness of physical therapy, is founded by Ryan Gudenkauf.

Other pitch competition winners were: Kristiff Poole, Renovare (Idea Stage, second place, $500), Joe Donzelli, Clubby (Idea Stage, third place, $250), Craig Bantz, Robinhood (Startup Growth Stage, second page, $500), Thuy Nguyen (Startup Growth Stage, third place, $250), Bailey Shafer, Driftless (Coaches Award, $500), and Nicole Relias, Underdog (Coaches Award, $500).
