Tsakani Nyoni

Nyoni has more than five years of experience in the field of indigenous knowledge systems. She has conducted qualitative research studies on indigenous knowledge and its significance to climate change adaptation. Recently, she graduated with a master of arts degree in African studies from the University of Venda in Limpopo, South Africa. The focus of her study was on co-creating Afrocentric ethical guidelines for digital content creators producing indigenous knowledge-based content. Nyoni is also a social entrepreneur and shares her insights on problem exploration, impact measurement, and applying for funding with startup social enterprises. In the past, she has volunteered at the University of Venda's Community Engagement where she engaged with indigenous knowledge holders on the challenges they experience in relation to the preservation of their knowledge. During this time, Nyoni co-founded an Indigenous Knowledge student chapter. Through the chapter, she facilitated webinars on indigenous knowledge and social entrepreneurship during the COVID-19 lockdown. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Nyoni plans to establish her own consultancy to continue her work with social enterprises and pursue lecturing.
