PRESCILLA AWINO ONYANGO

Prescilla Awino Onyango is the founder of Winam Green Ventures, an organization that empowers women to implement socio-economic projects, such as organic farming, hydroponic farming, briquettes, and improved energy-saving cookstoves. With over six years of experience in environmentally friendly enterprises in the Lake Victoria region, she strongly believes humans are the key to making the world a better place, whose health and well-being must be esteemed, prioritized, and protected. Prior to founding WGV, Prescilla was the Operations Director at Women in Sustainable Enterprises (WISE). She is a trainer and a mentor for teenagers and young adolescent women. In 2019, Prescilla was hired by Women's Campaign International to be the in-country Program Manager for their first international Girls Leadership and Advocacy Series (GALS) program in Kenya. Since the influx of COVID-19 in early 2020, Prescilla has proven that she is adaptive, creative, and committed to empowering girls. Prescilla, together with WCI, designed and implemented a COVID-19 response project (Reducing Adolescent Pregnancy in the Era of Covid19) aimed to reduce teen pregnancies and ensure more girls return to school post-pandemic. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Prescilla intends to create a better Agricultural market in Kenya by providing information to farmers and traders about current market prices and opportunities in different markets around the 47 counties in Kenya and fast-track her women’s empowerment work in her community.
