HERBERT NJABET MBIATAT

Herbert Njabet Mbiatat is a Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) and member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). These qualifications have given him solid accounting and financial management skills with over five years of relevant professional experience working with international and local non-governmental organizations assisting refugees in integrating into communities in the East region. Herbert is the Founder and CEO of BnH Farms, which combines his passion for agriculture and business knowledge to explore the hidden treasures of agriculture in his community. His company cultivates organic plantains on over 75 hectares of land. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic led to the closure of markets, which significantly impacted his business. Herbert created Kwenga Foods, which processes green plantains from his plantation to curb waste due to the closure of markets during the COVID-19 pandemic. As of now, Kwenga Foods has processed and sold over 60 tonnes of plantain flour across different markets in the Central African Region. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Herbert intends to set up a modern plantain flour processing unit with an efficient supply system through which subsistence farmers in his community can be sure of a market for the plantains they cultivate.
