Until July 2019, Gettemy served as Chief Operating Officer of TaxAct, a $200m+ SaaS tax software company. His main areas of focus were corporate development, strategy, tax development, customer service, and government relations. Prior to joining TaxAct in 2012, Gettemy held executive level positions in the telco, marketing research, and consumer software industries where he worked in operations, sales, and M&A roles. Gettemy has owned multiple businesses and has taught entrepreneurship at the University of Iowa since 2008. He holds an MBA from Drake University and a BA in economics from the University of Northern Iowa. In 2022, Gettemy was appointed to be a member of the Electronic Tax Administration Advisory Committee which makes an annual report to Congress and the IRS Commissioner. He has also served on the board of the Council for Electronic Revenue Communication Advancement (CERCA), has served as Vice Chair of the American Coalition for Taxpayer Rights, and as the industry lead on a tax fraud working group comprised of the IRS, state department of revenue, and the tax filing industry and chaired by the Commissioner of the IRS.
