Harms originally joined the Iowa JPEC in 2016, supporting the wide range of programs aimed at advancing innovation and entrepreneurship education. After three years, she stepped into industry roles in marketing, events, and sales, gaining experience she could bring back to the University of Iowa.

In 2025, Harms rejoined the Jacobson Institute with a focus on invention education, leading efforts for the Iowa Invention Convention, a statewide program designed to engage K–12 students in the world of invention and innovation.
