Our mentors are the backbone of Iowa VMS—skilled business leaders and industry experts who donate their time and talent to fuel the next generation of innovation. By collaborating as a team, mentors provide ventures with well-rounded, diverse strategic insights that a single advisor simply cannot match. 

How We Connect

Because our mentor network spans the entire United States and even some globally, ongoing team meetings are held via Zoom. However, if locations align, mentors and founders are welcome to connect in-person. Beyond engagement in Iowa VMS, we actively encourage our mentors to network with and learn from each other, building a powerful community of peers.

Who We’re Looking For

Exceptional skill, sharp business acumen, availability to meet as a team, and a passion for paying it forward are our only requirements. Successful applicants typically bring 7 to 10 years of industry experience. You do not need prior ties to the University of Iowa or Iowa JPEC to join—we welcome expertise from all backgrounds.

How to Join

We accept mentor applications on a rolling basis, primarily by referral from community members, Iowa JPEC participants, current Iowa VMS mentors, or venture teams. Didn't get a referral? If you have the experience and passion to help, we still want to hear from you and highly encourage you to apply.
