Hintz Biomedical and HMUIRL were first-place winners at the University of Iowa John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (Iowa JPEC) Undergraduate Startup Incubator Summer Track final pitches July 26 in the Black Box Theatre in the Iowa Memorial Union.

Lily Hintz of Hintz Biomedical won $1,800 in the Investor Pitch competition; Anna Miller and Teresa Knecht of HMUIRL won $400 in the Elevator Pitch competition. Hintz Biomedical focuses on preventing aggression in dementia patients via a mobile app; HMUIRL is an art and studio platform for creatives. 

A total of $5,000 was awarded to eight different student businesses. 

Other winners for Investor Pitch were James Altschul and Will Schwarz with Heartland Pictures (second place, $1,200), Alyssa Minor with Nova Strength (third place, $700), and Kiana Shevling Major with Check Engine Right (Best Pitch, $300).

Other winners for Elevator Pitch were Jada McDonald and Kate Stewart with EmpowHER (second place, $300), Lauren McGovern with Creatorpreneur 101 (third place, $200), and Gilberto Garcia with MotorWork (Best Pitch, $100).
