Biography
Heiar is a clinical associate professor and director of Iowa JPEC's NSF iCorps Faculty, Post Doc, and Graduate Student Workshop Program, where he teaches and mentors participants. Heiar teaches in the Tippie College of Business MBA program, the University of Iowa International teaching faculty, in a senior undergrad course, and is a Big Ten Certified Medical Jumpstart Instructor.
Heiar has extensive national and international expertise, and was a CEO for John Pappajohn, the legendary Wall Street investor and University of Iowa philanthropist since 2008, during which time he led five medical, laboratory testing, and drug discovery companies, including two AI-enhanced firms, and is the co-founder of the THI Venture Capital Fair in the country of Greece.
Heiar co-developed the successful Tippie Venture School Program, expanding it across the state, forged a multi-year collaboration with the University of Northern Iowa Pappajohn Center, and led the novel Iowa Medical Innovation Group year-long project, which included faculty from the Colleges of Law, Medicine, and Engineering along with his Tippie representation. Heiar has been asked annually to present half-day seminars on the Business of Medicine for the Carver College of Medicine, as well as innovation seminars for the Colleges of Dentistry and Pharmacy by invitation. In his corporate experience, Heiar was a vice-president for four North America Divisions at Baxter Healthcare, a 67,000 employee corporation, leading the Biotechnology Marketing, Global Oncology Business Development, Immunology, Hematology, Reimbursement and Communications functions.
Heiar is an in-demand national speaker and accomplished executive, who has won numerous awards for his vision and execution across the world. Heiar is a nautical master captain for up to 100-ton vessels, spending time on the water whenever possible. He is preparing to write a business book, plays guitar, and enjoys wine collecting with friends.
