Three University of Iowa students shared $6,000 in prize money at the undergraduate Startup Incubator End of Semester Pitch Competition on May 9 in the Black Box Theatre in the Iowa Memorial Union in Iowa City, Iowa.
The competitions was divided into three groups. Group 1 pitches were one minute with no question and answer session from the three judges. Group 2 was a two-minute pitch with no Q&A. Group 3 pitches were up to four minutes with a two-minute Q&A.
Tyler Graham (Archaneon Supplements LLC) won first place and $3,000 in Group 3. Archaneon produces fitness supplements for the high end gym rat, powerlifter, or body-builder. EmmaJean Roling (RefillerMe) won first place and $2,000 in Group 2. Refiller Me aims to scale liquid detergent refills with a goal of reducing plastic waste. Patrick Igo and Landon Stoll (FLIP) won first place and $1,000 in Group 1. FLIP, which stands for financial literacy innovation program, uses analytics and games to deliver compound wealth learning. Xandra McGlasson (Able Table) received honorable mention recognition out of Group 2. Able Table creates adjustable tables for wheelchair users to increase inclusivity when dining with others.
Startup Incubator connects entrepreneurs from across campus with the experts and resources they need to launch an idea and grow it into a sustainable business. The program is part of the University of Iowa John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center, the hub for entrepreneurship education and outreach at the University of Iowa.
